Appollant and Hr d'Almada E. Castro informed the Respondent

Mr Measer, who was Superintendent of the Gaol, that they were

prepared to find bail. The Respondent Hr Messer communicated

with the Respondent Hr Hallifax who was Secretary for Chinese

Affairs in order to expedite the interview provided for in

Section 4 Sub-section (6) of the Ordinance and to avoid the

necessity for the Appellant spending a night in a prison.

Pending the arrival of the Respondent Mr Hallifax, i d'Almada

E Castro asked the permission of the Respondent Er Messer to

speak to the Appellant on office matters undertaking not to

refer to the question of his deportation and permission was

given him to do so on those terms. Before the arrival of the

Respondent Mr Hallifax the finger prints of the Appellant were

taken and he was physically examined by a hospital warder.

This was done in the ordinary routine of the gaol and the

Appellant himself raised no objection.
